Complete Offloading
Complete offloading is the ability to fully relieve pressure from a specific vulnerable anatomical area or wound site so that little to no damaging interface pressure remains on the affected tissue. In advanced wound care, complete offloading is critical for protecting compromised tissue, reducing further breakdown, improving blood flow, and supporting healing of Stage III, Stage IV, and unstageable pressure injuries.
Many support surfaces can redistribute pressure, but true offloading requires the ability to selectively minimize or eliminate pressure at targeted locations while still maintaining overall patient support, stability, and comfort.
Pro-Daptive™ SensorCell™ achieves advanced offloading through its independently responsive SensorCell™ architecture and adaptive pressure management technology. This allows the care giver to completely offload the heels utilizing Heel Float or completely offload the coccyx, sacrum, shoulder blades and more with the custom cavity creation mode. Unlike conventional surfaces that operate with generalized therapy settings, Pro-Daptive™ SensorCell™ continuously responds to the patient’s body shape, positioning, movement, and localized pressure risks in real time.
This adaptive response allows the system to selectively reduce pressure beneath vulnerable anatomical areas while maintaining therapeutic support throughout the rest of the body. By dynamically adjusting support characteristics across individual zones, Pro-Daptive™ helps create a therapeutic environment that more effectively protects compromised tissue and supports wound healing.
Pro-Daptive™ combines:
- Adaptive pressure redistribution
- Targeted pressure relief
- Immersion and envelopment
- Floatation therapy
- Real-time responsiveness to patient movement and positioning
Together, these capabilities help optimize offloading performance for complex wounds and high-risk patients.
Traditional alternating pressure systems cannot achieve complete offloading because they primarily function by cyclically shifting pressure from one area of the body to another through repetitive inflation and deflation patterns. While alternating pressure can temporarily reduce pressure exposure in certain regions, some degree of interface pressure remains present throughout the therapy cycle, and the system cannot continuously provide individualized, targeted offloading to specific wound locations.
Similarly, Air Fluidized Therapy (AFT) surfaces provide excellent immersion, envelopment, and generalized low-pressure floatation, but they do not provide precise, localized pressure control. AFT distributes pressure broadly across the body surface, yet it cannot dynamically target and continuously offload specific anatomical areas based on changing patient conditions or wound needs.
Pro-Daptive™ advances beyond both technologies by combining the immersion and floatation benefits associated with AFT with adaptive, individualized pressure management capable of delivering targeted offloading support. This creates a more responsive therapeutic environment designed to better protect vulnerable tissue and support advanced pressure injury treatment goals.
