Custom Cavity Creation

Custom cavity creation is the ability of a therapeutic support surface to create a specifically pressure-relieved area beneath a vulnerable anatomical site or wound location. This customized cavity helps isolate and offload the affected tissue by reducing or minimizing direct interface pressure while still maintaining proper support and stability for the surrounding body structures.

In advanced wound care, the ability to create a custom cavity for complete offloading has remained beyond the capabilities of traditional support surfaces. This level of targeted offloading is critical for patients with Stage III, Stage IV, and unstageable pressure injuries, complex flap procedures, graft sites, exposed structures, and highly localized areas of tissue compromise where even minimal residual pressure can interfere with healing. Pro-Daptive™ SensorCell™ is the only support surface designed to dynamically create customized therapeutic cavities that provide true targeted offloading while maintaining surrounding support, stability, immersion, and envelopment.

Pro-Daptive™ SensorCell™ achieves custom cavity creation through its independently responsive SensorCell™ architecture and adaptive pressure management technology. The system continuously responds to the patient’s body shape, positioning, movement, and localized pressure requirements in real time. This allows targeted sections of the surface to adapt independently from surrounding support areas.

By selectively adjusting support characteristics beneath specific anatomical locations, Pro-Daptive™ can create a customized zone designed to help offload vulnerable tissue while maintaining therapeutic immersion, envelopment, floatation, and overall patient stability. Unlike static surfaces or generalized therapy systems, the cavity can dynamically adapt as patient positioning and clinical needs change.

Traditional alternating pressure systems do not have the ability to create custom cavities because their therapy is based on preset inflation and deflation cycles across grouped air cells. While they can temporarily redistribute pressure, they cannot provide continuous, anatomically targeted cavity formation tailored to a specific wound location or patient need.

Similarly, Air Fluidized Therapy (AFT) systems provide generalized immersion and envelopment through fluidized media, but the surface behaves uniformly across the support area. Although AFT can reduce overall interface pressure, it cannot selectively create stable, customized offloading cavities beneath specific anatomical regions while independently maintaining surrounding support characteristics.
